it was like a fairy-tale...
I am in love with france more than ever...

a day on the beach+a little dutch village in black and white

Last weekend we had a really great weather so we decided to explore a little bit more Zeeland and to spend a day on the beach of the North Sea. Zeeland is located in the south-west of the Netherlands next to the Belgian border. It consists of several islands. This time we decided to visit the small seaside resort called Domburg.

We were not the only one who decided to spend this sunny autumn day at the beach.








We had a great time, but the children regretted that they had not been able to swim.




We took a walk in the village too which has very strong Dutch characteristics.






I loved the rustic little houses and the lot of black and white details. So Dutch and so great!

I cherish days like this. I feel like the best bit about living in Belgium is that we are able to explore some amazing corners of Western Europe.

visiting the smallest city in the world: durbuy

Two weeks ago we visited Durbuy known (without much justification) as the smallest city in the world. It is located in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. Not the country.

It was love at first sight! Before I had liked Ghent the most, but now it is official: Durbuy is the best place in Belgium! To be honest it does not seem to be Belgian at all - which may be its biggest advantage.

The setting is beautiful. It is surrounded by mountains...

and the Ourthe river passes through the village (I am sorry I can not call it a town, it is just too small).

(Even this small village has its own river which I really miss here in Brussels. Are there any other European capitals which do not have a river??)

The history of the town goes back to medieval times and the architecture is very reminiscent of England.




There are lots of cafes and restaurants...

and cozy little cobblestoned streets.


We found some great curiosity shops, too.


This little village is a real gem and I am really convinced that the province of Luxembourg is the best part of Belgium. The perfect location for a summerhouse!

Dear South France,
thanks for giving us the best holiday of our life! Thanks for the sun, the colors, the hospitality, the happiness, the smell of the sea, the great food, the beautiful landscapes and the opportunity that we could feel how is life without worries. We will be back.
